Archives: The Rock Financial Sessions - Paint It Black

A few weeks back, in the midst of the lockdown, I found an unlabelled CD. Long story short, it was an old recording of the first band I was in.

Featuring:
  • Mark on vocals
  • Terry on bass
  • Alan on drums
  • Colin (me) on lead guitar
Somewhere out there (probably under the stairs here), there’s a bunch of minidiscs featuring us sounding a lot better. From what I recall, this was one of our first sessions together and was recorded on Alan’s computer, with a single mic sitting in the middle of the room.

As time went on, I worked out how to record a whole session on minidisc by plugging it into a mixing desk with several mics plugged in.

So yeah, if there’s anything the world needs right now, it’s a 15 year old recording of my old band, doing (and in places, mostly by me) ruining the Rolling Stones classic, Paint It Black for 10 minutes flat.

Enjoy.

About Merry Xmas Everybody As John Lennon once sung, so this is Christmas...  So yeah, as Christmas approached us this year, I began to consider whether I should bother recording a festive song or not. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas songs, most of them are...
