From the archives: First

So, today I found an old external hard drive, possibly the first one I ever bought.  It had a treasure trove of old images, demos and band sessions on it, and it will take me some time to go through it all.

But I thought I’d share this little gem I’ve rediscovered.

Recorded on an old Tascam 424 back in, what I guess must be 2002, it is possibly my earliest attempt at recording music (or at least the earliest existing example of me trying such things).

The Tascam 424 Portrastudio was essentially a 4-track studio, that recorded onto Chrome II cassette tapes.

The audio would wobble all over the place, and I never got any great results out of the Tascam 424, but it was a start I guess and a much needed learning curve.

I think the guitar I am playing here is a Hohner Les Paul copy and if I recall correctly, I was using a Zoom 505 effects peddle on this.

After I had finished laying down the tracks, I mixed this using the Tascam Portastudio and transferred it over to a Sony Minidisc recorder.

And then later, probably around 2004, I must’ve recorded it on to my old laptop as a .wav file.

While this recording isn’t very good, it is a nice little trip down memory lane.

I was clearly listening to a lot of Badly Drawn Boy back then.

Archives: L.A. Woman

So back in 2004 to 2006, I could quite often be found in the basement of an office block in Kingston, playing guitar with 3 other musicians. We never performed live, but we'd meet up at least twice a week and play whatever songs we felt like.   Around 2005, I began to...

About Merry Xmas Everybody As John Lennon once sung, so this is Christmas...  So yeah, as Christmas approached us this year, I began to consider whether I should bother recording a festive song or not. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas songs, most of them are...
